What is causing Screen Flickering issue on OnePlus 7T phones

Many OnePlus 7T users have reported that their device has a screen flickering issue. The problem isn’t limited to just this model. Even other OnePlus models seem to have this issue.

The Screen flickering issue has also been observed in OnePlus 7 Pro and was also reported in the OnePlus 6 models. An anonymous OnePlus 7T user reported that his phone flickered while using the Netflix app. But he doesn’t face issues while accessing Amazon Prime or Hotstar.

OnePlus hasn’t certified any fix for the issue. This is strange as the issue has been persistent across all models. It could be a firmware problem or a hardware issue. The company hasn’t been able to address the issue and customers have been trying to deal with it on their own.

Certain blogs have come up with a solution for this. According to one of these blogs, the cause for the screen flickering could be the refresh rate. As per the blogger, the 90Hz refresh rate is the main culprit. So to fix the issue you have reduced the refresh rate from 90Hz to 60Hz. This can be easily done from the phone settings.

The reduction in refresh rate also is good for battery life. However, the lower refresh rate reduces picture quality. Given the presence of issues across various models it might be a possibility that it is a hardware issue.

If reducing the refresh rate doesn’t work then the best thing would be to visit a OnePlus repair center. Given the government lockdown the customers need to remain patient and mange with their imperfect phones.
