Russian Daniil Medvedev rolled through the U.S. Open third round by demolishing American J.J. Wolf 6-3 6-3 6-2 on Saturday.

The third seed seized the early momentum, breaking Wolf’s serve for a 3-2 lead in the first set in which he committed just two unforced errors in a show of near-flawless play.

Russia’s 2019 U.S. Open runner-up won the first break point in the second set after a pair of unforced errors from his opponent and appeared totally in control as he fired off eight aces, including one to close out the set.

Wolf handed Medvedev his first service game loss of the tournament with a break in the second set, matching the hard-hitting Russian’s power, but a flurry of unforced errors – 41 in the match compared to 10 from Medvedev – proved his undoing.

“I’m sure he’s going to be climbing up the rankings,” Medvedev said of his Wolf. “I did everything I could for it to be tough (for him).”

No sweat for Tiafoe

American Frances Tiafoe beat Martin Fucsovics 6-2, 6-3, 6-2. He will be no.3 seed Medvedev’s 4th round opponent

US Open : After win over Sloane Stephens, Serena Williams to clash with Maria Sakkari in Last 16

Six-time champion Serena Williams fought back from a slow start to beat fellow American Sloane Stephens and reach the last 16 of the US Open.

Third seed Williams, 38, was sluggish in the opening set before raising her intensity to win 2-6 6-2 6-2 against 26th seed Stephens in New York.

“It was intense, we always have some incredible matches,” she said.

Williams, aiming for a record-equalling 24th Grand Slam singles title, faces Greek 15th seed Maria Sakkari next.

Sakkari, 25, beat Williams in 3 sets at the Western and Southern Open last week.

US Open : Pironkova’s dream return continue

Bulgaria’s Tsvetana Pironkova, playing in her first tournament after a three-year hiatus, followed up her shock win over 10th seed Garbine Muguruza with another upset against 18th seed Donna Vekic.

Pironkova, 32, announced in March she planned to return after taking time off following the birth of her son in March 2018.

Known as a grass-court specialist, the 2010 Wimbledon semi-finalist has reached the last 16 at the US Open for only the second time after beating Vekic 6-4 6-1.

Pironkova has not dropped a set all week at Flushing Meadows and next faces France’s Alize Cornet, who progressed after her American opponent Madison Keys retired with a neck injury when trailing 7-6 (7-4) 3-2.

“There was a time, maybe for one and a half, two years after I became a mum, where I didn’t really picture coming back to the tour at all,” she said.

“I was happy with the moment, just wanted to live through everything, through this new exciting times in my life.”

US Open : Felix Auger Aliassime creates history for Canada

History has been made at this year’s US Open with three Canadian players reaching the second week of a Grand Slam for the first time. After Denis Shapovalov and Vasek Pospisil advanced to the fourth round with thrilling five-set victories, No. 15 seed Felix Auger Aliassime completed the Canadian hat trick with a dominant performance on Saturday.

Some players struggle to maintain momentum after a big win and suffer a letdown in their next match, but Auger-Aliassime proved otherwise. Two days after defeating 2012 champion Andy Murray under the lights in Arthur Ashe Stadium, the No. 15 seed picked up where he left off in dismantling fellow #NextGenATP player Corentin Moutet 6-1, 6-0, 6-4.

Auger-Aliassime advanced to the second week of a major championship for the first time and improved to 2-0 in his ATP Head2Head series with Moutet.
