US Open : Novak Djokovic winning streak continues, enters Last 16 of US Open 2020
Novak Djokovic once again proved to be his menacing best as he powered into the last 16 of US Open 2020. Top seed Djokovic continued his winning streak in 2020 to defeat 28th ranked Jan Struff of Germany.
Djokovic won the match in straight sets 6-3, 6-3, 6-1 to register his 26 consecutive victory in 2020.
The Serb will be up against Pablo Carreno Busta in the Last 16 match-up.
US Open 2020 : Alexander Zverev enters last 16
Fifth seed Alexander Zverev overcame a slow start to dispatch France’s Adrian Mannarino 6-7(4) 6-4 6-2 6-2 at the U.S. Open on Friday in a match that was delayed by health officials for over 2-1/2 hours.
The third-round clash was originally scheduled to start at 2.30 p.m. local time on Louis Armstrong Stadium but was pushed back while the United States Tennis Association conducted a “collaborative dialogue” with health officials.
Mannarino was placed under an “enhanced protocol plan” after coming in contact with fellow Frenchman Benoit Paire, who pulled out of the tournament having tested positive for COVID-19.
When the players finally arrived on court at 5.15 p.m., Mannarino claimed the opening set in a tiebreak as an untidy Zverev posted 26 unforced errors.
But the German rediscovered his rhythm in the second set to find a way past Mannarino’s serve in the 10th game, unleashing a blistering forehand winner to get to one set apiece.
With momentum on his side, Zverev converted a further five break points opportunities to book a last-16 spot for the second consecutive year in New York.
US Open 2020 : Shapovalov wins 5 set thriller against Fritz
Denis Shapovalov came back from the brink to beat Taylor Fritz in a five set thriller 3-6, 6-3, 4-6, 7-6, 6-2.
In an epic match the Canadian youngster, showed tremendous character to fight back from being two points from being knocked out.
He will be up against David Goffin, the no.7 seed for a place in the quarterfinals.
