The Indian Premier League (IPL 2020) side Kolkata Knight Riders is currently one pacer short. After the withdrawal of Harry Gurney, KKR had identified Mustafizur Rahman of Bangladesh as his replacement. Rahman also was keen to play the IPL 2020 but Bangladesh Cricket Board has played a spoilsport.

According to a report by Cricbuzz, the Bangladesh Cricket Board denied Mustafizur Rahman a no-objection certificate to participate in the IPL 2020 due to his obligations with the national side. The website also has reported that the left-arm pacer was not only approached by Kolkata Knight Riders but also by Mumbai Indians.

While KKR had lost Gurney, Mumbai Indians was looking for a replacement of Lasith Malinga who withdrew due to personal reasons last week. Since then Mumbai Indians has replaced Malinga with James Pattinson, KKR are yet to find a replacement for Gurney.

Rahman was keen to play for KKR in the much awaited season but BCB denied him a NOC as Bangladesh national team is due to tour Sri Lanka for a three match test series. The rescheduled series is beginning on October 24th and IPL 2020 will still be on at that stage.

“Yes, he [Mustafizur] had an offer from the IPL but we did not give him NOC as we have the Sri Lanka tour coming up,” BCB cricket operation chairman Akram Khan told Cricbuzz.

BCB is planning a week-long residential camp ahead of the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka that is set to begin on September 21, of which Mustafizur is expected to be a part.

IPL 2020 : No Bangladesh cricketer is featuring in IPL this year

It is worth noting that Rahman already has three seasons of IPL but last played in IPL in 2018 for Mumbai Indians. Other than this pacer from Bangladesh had played two seasons with Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2016 & 2017.

No cricketer from Bangladesh is featuring in IPL 2020. Earlier Rahman was part of the IPL auctions list but did not get picked for the season.

According to the sources KKR team management is now in touch with couple of pace options currently on duty in the Caribbean Premier League. KKR is likely to finalize the contract in next 48 hours and will make the announcement of replacement of Gurney.
