It is final now, England & Australian cricketers will miss the first week of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2020). The IPL franchises will have to play the first 1-2 games without the star cricketers from England & Australia in their squads. Be it Ben Stokes, Steve Smith or David Warner – IPL franchises will have to live without 17-18 leading cricketers due to participate in the 3 T20 & 3ODI game series that ends on 16th September. 
 
InsideSport has reliably learnt that, despite of the franchises requests for relaxation of quarantine protocols related to Covid-19 to the players traveling after participating in the England vs Australia series, the BCCI has decided not to relax any Covid19 protocols for the cricketers traveling after playing the said series or CPL 2020. 
 
It is worth noting that the franchises had requested the IPL Governing Council to relax the norms on the pretext of cricketers coming from one BIO-SECURE norm to the other, but the IPL 2020 management is not ready to give any relaxations in this regard. 
 
“We can’t lower our guard. Any relaxation to anyone can cost us the IPL edition. Franchises have to live with the fact that some cricketers will miss one or two games. We all need to be vigilant and compliant in these very difficult times”, said senior BCCI functionary to InsideSport on the issue.

Cricket Australia after much delay has now confirmed the tour to England for the 3T20 / 3ODI game series that ends on 16th September, just 3 days before the IPL 2020 starts in UAE. This means even if the leading cricketers who are participating in this high-profile series leave for their IPL bases by 16th night, amid the Covid19 protocols set by BCCI, they can’t games scheduled for the first week of IPL 2020.

As per the IPL 2020 protocols, each member entering the BIO-BUBBLE set by IPL will have to first under-go seven-day quarantine period, which involves team members clearing three tests before they can start training. 

Not only this, once they reach UAE, as per the local government directives they will have to undergo Covid19 test. Only if they test negative, the players will be allowed to move out from the isolation zone of the UAE government. This process will take 48-72 hours. Post that players and the franchises will have to follow the SOP’S set by the BCCI and IPL 2020.

As per the protocol, every squad will undergo a mandatory seven-day quarantine in the team hotel. During this week every squad member will be tested three times – on days 1, 3 and 6. Once all three results come back negative, the squad can start training. After that, all squad members will be tested on the fifth day of every week throughout the tournament.

Overall 17 players from Australia & 11 players from England are contracted to play in IPL 2020 on multi million dollar contracts. The big names like Steve Smith, David Warner, Pat Cummins, Ben Stokes, Jofra Archer are also slated to participate in the England vs Australia white ball series and all of them will now not be part of first week of IPL 2020.
