Xiaomi submits the patent of its foldable smartphone with pop-up camera

It seems like foldable smartphones are getting into a trend as companies like Samsung, Motorola and Huawei have already launched several foldable phones this year. Samsung Galaxy Fold and Huawei Mate X did a really good business in the market with their respective unique features. Being a big name in the industry, Xiaomi has also come up with their own foldable smartphone version.

We should also mention that Xiaomi already released an official video on its website that they will bring the foldable smartphone. Now, an additional report shows that the company has patented the design of its foldable smartphone very recently.

Reports show that Xiaomi had previously filed numerous patents of various possible foldable devices that include a clamshell and a tri-folding display. However, there was no news of any confirmed products for a long time.

Recent reports confirm that Xiaomi has submitted a patent to China’s National Intellectual Property Administration. According to the patent, this patented device is a slightly modified version of their last year’s folded smartphone.

This new model will have a more realistic single-camera design instead of having five pop up cameras. The patent also suggests that Xiaomi will introduce an outward folding display just like other folding smartphones in the market.

However, as the previous patent shows, the single elevating camera will act as a rear or front shooter depending on the way the user holds the phone. The phone will also have a USB Type-C port as per the patent. This is likely to have a side volume button and an in-display fingerprint scanner for security purposes.

We still don’t have any confirmed news if Xiaomi is going to launch a product depending on the patent. Once we get anything on this topic, we will surely get back to you.
