Huawei launches its new flagship P40 series: First look
On 26th March, Huawei launched its P40 series in an online-only event amidst the novel coronavirus pandemic. The series includes three models: the Huawei P40 5G, Huawei P40 Pro 5G, and the Huawei P40 Pro Plus 5G.
On account of being blacklisted by US authorities, Huawei has moved away from using any Google services on its Android phones. The P40 series doesn’t have Google search. The Google search is replaced by Qwant (a European search engine) for phones releasing in Italy, France, and Germany. Also, the Google search assistant has been replaced by “Celia”.
Thus Huawei has followed up on its usage of non-Google services since Mate 30 series last year. Let’s go through the important specs and features of each model.
Huawei P40 5G
The P40 5G is relatively the most basic model of the series. It comes with a smaller 6.1-inch screen with a resolution of (2340 X 1080). This is lower compared to the P40 Pro models. Its display refresh rate is up to 60Hz again lower than the higher-end models. Also, this device doesn’t have an infrared face unlock.
Huwaei P40 5G supports dual-SIM(Nano) runs on an Android 10 base with EMUI on top. The phone runs on Huawei’s Kirin robust 990 5G processor.
Coming to the memory Huawei P40 5G comes in an 8GB RAM and 128 GB internal storage. The storage can be expanded using the Nano Memory 2 Card. The device is available in three glossy color variants – Black, Deep Sea Blue, Ice White. There are two matte variants as well: Blush Gold and Silver Frost.
Moving on the camera, P40 5G has triple rear cameras. It has a primary 50 MP f/1.9 camera, a 16MP f/2.2 ultra-wide-angle lens, and an 8MP f/2.4 telephoto lens. The selfie camera is 32MP f/2.0 with an infrared sensor to support during low-lighting.
P40 5G houses a 3,800 mAh battery which supports SuperCharge fast charging of up to 22.5 W. It doesn’t support wireless charging unlike the Pro models
The phone is on the lighter side and weighs 175 grams. Its sale start date is April 7. Huawei P40 5G is priced at EUR 799 or 66,300 INR.
Huawei P40 Pro 5G
The Huawei P40 Pro 5G improves upon the P40 significantly. It has a larger 6.58 inch with a higher resolution of 1,200 X 2640 pixels. The display rate is pushed up to 90Hz. It also uses the Kirin 990 5G processor and runs on the same OS as P40. Its design gives it a bezel-less look.
Coming to phone memory the RAM remains at 8GB but the internal storage is increased to 256 GB. Memory is again expandable and shares the same connectivity features. Also, the color variants are the same as Huawei P40 5G.
Huawei P40 Pro 5G has four rear cameras. The primary is 50 MP f/1.9 lens with OIS. The ultra-wide-angle shooter is a 40MP f/1.8 lens. There is a 12 MP telephoto lens with a SuperSensing feature. In addition, there is a 3D depth-sensing camera. The front selfie camera is once again a 32 MP f/2.2 lens with a depth sensor.
The P40 Pro 5G houses a large 4,200mAh battery and it supports fast charging of up to 40W( cabled). It also supports Wireless SuperCharge fast charging of up to 27W. The phone is heavier than P40 5G and weighs 209 grams.
Its sale start date is April 7. The P40 Pro 5G is priced at EUR 999 or 82,900 INR.
Huawei P40 Pro Plus 5G
This is the top model of the Huawei P40 series. It visibly improves on the P40 Pro 5G model, especially in its camera. The phone dimensions are similar to that of P40 Pro 5G. This weighs slightly more at 226 grams.
It comes with an 8GB RAM. However, the internal storage is not expandable like other P40 models. The internal storage is increased to 512 GB to compensate for it. Its processor and OS are the same as the other two P40 models.
The Huwaei P40 Pro Plus 5G camera has interesting additions. It houses five rear cameras. The Penta-camera setup contains 50 MP f/1.9 primary camera with OIS, an ultra-wide-angle shooter of 40 MP and f/1.8 aperture, a 3D depth-sensing sensor and two 8 MP lenses with zoom. Now, these two lenses provide two different optical zooms.
The 8 MP SuperZoom periscope lens of 125mm has f/4.4 aperture and gives 10x optical zoom. The other 8 MP lens is a telephoto lens of 80 mm with a 3x optical zoom.
P40 Pro Plus 5G battery is the same as that of P40 Pro 5G and once again supports SuperCharge 40W fast charging. However, its wireless SuperCharge supports fast charging of up to 40W. This is claimed to be the fastest commercialized 40 wireless charging.
Its sale starts in June. The Huawei P40 Pro Plus 5G comes in Black Ceramic and White Ceramic and is priced at EUR 1,399 or 1,16,000 INR.
