Google rolls out its February Security Patch for the Pixel devices

Google just released its monthly security patch which comes out on the fifth of every month, for Android. The February Security Patch is now available for the Pixel 4/4XL, 3a/3a XL, 3/3 XL, and 2/2 XL. The original Pixel saw its last update in December.

The February security patch will try to solve 13 issues, ranging from high to critical. However, the most critical threat that has been recurring every month. It has to be related to the media framework and a remote attacker that is thought to be executing arbitrary code through a crafted file.

Google reassured that no devices had been affected by the above-mentioned threat. Google also mentioned that 84% more devices have received security updates as compared to last year.

As for the Pixel devices, the update brings NFC fixes through the February security patch. However, the fixes for the Pixel devices are lesser in number than the January security patch. This does not in any way mean that the fixes for the Pixel devices are there just as customary. The fixes brought on by the February patch aims at addressing some fairly serious problems, such as fixing the boot looping Pixel 4 phones. Other fixes appear to be trivial and not exclusive to the Pixel 4 series.

Here are the newly released software builds :

  • QQ1B.200205.002 for Pixel 4/4 XL
  • QQ1A.200205.002 for Pixel 3a / 3a XL
  • QQ1A.200205.002 for  Pixel 3 / 3 XL
  • QQ1A.200205.002 for Pixel 2 / 2 XL

It might take some time for this month’s security patch to hit all the owners of Pixel devices around the world. But it is certain that all Pixel 2, 3, and 4 owners will get the updates in the upcoming days. The updates are under automatic distribution through the OTA level overall.
