Talksport bags exclusive radio rights for 2020-21 England tour of India

London-based Talksport has acquired the live and exclusive rights for the radio commentary of England cricket team’s tour of India in 2020-2021. With this acquisition, Talksport has tightened its hold on England’s overseas men’s cricket coverage.

Following on from Talksport’s hugely popular coverage of England cricket team’s Sri Lanka tour, the station has bagged the exclusive rights for England’s tour of India in 2020-2021. India is slated to play three one-day internationals (ODI) and three T20 matches between September and October 2020 followed by a five-Test series between January and March 2021 at home. Talksport2will broadcast the live commentary of the full tour.

Every ball of the tour will be broadcast live on talkSport2 including all T20s, ODI’s and Test Matches against the current World number one Test side. This means the station will now exclusively broadcast all of England’s major overseas tours until 2021. While the BBC remain the rightsholder to all of England’s home series, Talksport continues to secure coverage of matches abroad. The latest deal adds to rights for England’s upcoming tour of the West Indies, the 2019-20 winter tour of South Africa, and last year’s series victory in Sri Lanka.

“After broadcasting England’s comprehensive series wins out in Sri Lanka, it’s great to follow this up with winning the rights to one of the best series in the cricket calendar in India,” said Liam Fisher, Talksport’s national radio controller.“With exclusive coverage of West Indies and South Africa over the next 14 months we will continue to provide excellent ball-by-ball coverage for cricket fans.”

England cricket legend and Talksport presenter Darren Gough said: “Watching India’s performance against Australia has whetted my appetite for when England tour India in 2020 & 2021. It will be a fascinating contest and one of England’s greatest challenges.

“Joe Root’s England are on a high and if they can secure a series win in India it will take them to a whole new level.”

Talksport officially claims itself to be the “world’s biggest sports radio station”. The broadcaster has its reach beyond Britain. Outside the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland, Talksport broadcasts live commentary of every Premier League match around the world in multiple languages, including English, Spanish and Mandarin.

Geoffrey Boycott and Chris Cowdrey along with Gough feature among the 50-strong panel of Talksport commentators.
