Premier watch brand Jacob & Co signs Messi

Luxury watch brand Jacob & Co has signed Argentine football star Lionel Messi is its global brand ambassador.

As part of the three-year partnership, the brand and Messi have collaborated to create a limited-edition timepiece, known as the Epic x Chrono Messi.

Messi’s agreement with the deluxe watch brand comes six years after long-term rival Cristiano Ronaldo had signed a similar deal with the company.

Under the terms of the arrangement, Messi will work with the company on other projects in order to produce further limited-edition products.

Jacob & Co founder Jacob Arabo said: “The beauty of this finished product and our overall experience with the Messi brand thus far have also significantly raised our expectations for future releases. Admirers of the Epic x Chrono will surely be pleased with what’s to come.”

Messi added: “I am delighted to be in partnership with Jacob & Co, who I regard as the most innovative watch maker.”

The inaugural offering features Messi’s signature on the back, as well as being adorned in blue and white – a tribute to Messi’s Argentinian origins. The number ten is also present – a nod to Messi’s iconic shirt number at Barcelona, for whom he has scored 577 goals.

The watches are being sold at a retail price of US$28,000 each.

Messi scored his 400th La Liga goal for the reigning domestic champions on Sunday, as he came on as a substitute in a 3-1 victory over Leganes.
