IPL 2019: Australians the highest salaried, Indians come sixth
The cricketers from India take home a majority 55.86 per cent stake from the Indian Premier League salary purse. The top three players to get highest consolidated salaries across 12 seasons of the league are Indians – the trio of Mahendra Singh Dhoni (₹122.8 crore), Rohit Sharma (₹116.6 crore) and Virat Kohli (109.2 crore). Kohli is the player to get the highest ever salary of ₹ 17 crore.
In spite of these riches, if you think Indians are the highest paid cricketers in the IPL you are mistaken. The Kangaroos have been the best paid lot in India’s professional cricket league. Kohli (₹17 lakh), Dhoni and Rohit (₹ 15 lakh each) have the top three contracts for the season. But these lucrative contracts are no good enough for the Indian lot to meet the Australian cricketers average IPL salaries for the season.
The 12 Australians in IPL Season 12 will pocket an average salary of ₹ 4.95 crore – the highest for any nationals. The thought that the Indians come next will be grossly wrong as well. This is hard to believe fact that India doesn’t even figure in the top five nations for the players highest average salaries. The West Indians, regulars and most prominent faces of the league, pocket average ₹4.83 crore per player followed by minnows Afghans (₹4.66 crore).

The analysis of the Insidesport.co Moneyball salary calculator reveals that India is placed sixth for average IPL salaries.
To put things in perspective, India’s overall salary average also declines as the most of uncapped Indian players figure in the ₹20 lakh salary bracket. Sri Lanka, West Indies and England gain significantly in average salaries as the top overseas professionals attract higher bids.
Afghanistan makes the grade at the No. 3 position behind the West Indies on the strength of Rashid Khan’s ₹9 crore salary contract with Sunrisers Hyderabad. Even as the other two Afghan players in the league Mujeeb ur Rahman (KXIP) and Mohammad Nabi (SRH) get ₹ 4 crore and ₹ 1 crore respectively, Rashid’s bigger package makes IPL a lucrative deal for the Afghan players.
IPL 2019 has players from 10 different nationalities. Sandeep Lamichhane ₹20 lakh contract with Delhi Capitals also becomes the lowest average salary to place Nepal at the bottom of the table.
