5 most bizarre WWE traditions

5 most bizarre WWE traditions
28 Jul 2018
  • We all know that WWE is not a sport. It is sports entertainment. And such a show comes with its own set of traditions.
  • They keep the matches exciting and help the performers to showcase their abilities.
  • And these weird traditions are what make the WWE interesting and popular among a wide range of viewers.
  • Here we take a look at five of them.

Champion's Benefit: No title change if counted out or disqualified
Walk-out
  • When two people fight in a championship battle, the title does not change hands if the reigning champion is disqualified or counted out.
  • He keeps the title to himself, though the challenger wins the match on paper.
  • This bizarre tradition does not make any sense, as one can keep retaining the title just by walking out or getting disqualified.

Protecting your partner
Tag-team
  • Tag-team matches are a special attraction but one contradictory aspect of these fights is overlooked deliberately.
  • Usually, if two wrestlers are fighting, others cannot enter the ring till tagged in.
  • However, if one's partner is pinned down, the other wrestler might enter the ring and interfere in order to break the count.
  • The referee lets it go to make the fights more dramatic.

Escape to victory?
Steel-cage
  • Wrestlers fight a steel cage match to settle their feuds once and for all.
  • A steel cage match is won through pinfall, submission, or if one of the fighters escapes the cage.
  • Traditionally, the point of a steel cage was to not let the heel escape.
  • But, since escaping is a way to secure a victory, the concept of these fights is completely bizarre.

When the referee is down
Referee
  • Several times, a referee is hit either accidentally or deliberately during a match.
  • When the official is down, the wrestlers continue fighting and some even use unfair means.
  • But no immediate replacement ever arrives, albeit on rare scripted occasions, to see that the match goes on fairly.
  • This weird tradition makes little sense and is done only to augment story-lines.

What was the deal with the Hardcore Championship?
Hardcore
  • On winning the Hardcore Championship, Crash Holly made an announcement.
  • He stated that the championship could be challenged, 24*7 365 days and anyone could challenge him for it.
  • Holly then ended up defending his title at strange places, including a hotel, a restaurant and a circus.
  • Further, once even a referee tried to pin him down to secure a victory.
  • Definitely, the strangest tradition!
